Readability is Awesome

There’s a reason that 16px is the default font-size in most modern web browsers. It’s because readability is awesome.

We’re no longer trapped within the confines of 800×600, back when you had to go small to get your message across. Now we have space — lots of space — and we’re having trouble filling it with 11px and 12px Arial.

The solution is not more content.
The solution is larger font-size.

We, the Large Font Coalition, strive to abide by the following in hopes of making the web a more readable — and thus, a more usable place.

• The font-size for my site’s content will be no less than 16px.
• Smaller text will only be used as a well-thought-out exception to the rule.
• My site will not have junk content just to fill the design.
• Big is beautiful.
